Children and Family Health Surrey has been awarded funding from Surrey Heartlands to run a Gypsy, Roma and Traveller health outreach programme.
The service is provided by a specialist team of healthcare professionals consisting of a district nurse, health visitor and a school nursery nurse who outreach to local Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities providing care and support on a range of health issues.
They offer help and advice on a range of topics including:
- Immunisations
- Face to face advice
- Health concerns
- A&E or GP
- Teeth
- Healthy eating
- Blood pressure
- Weighing babies
The specialist Gypsy, Roma and Traveller health team also provides training to other healthcare staff so they too can support Traveller communities.
Friends, Families and Travellers have created a resource to support health and care service providers breakdown some of the barriers experienced by Gypsies, Roma and Travellers when accessing healthcare. Visit the Friends, Families and Travellers website to view the resource.
