Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Health Team

Children and Family Health Surrey has been awarded funding from Surrey Heartlands to run a two year Gypsy, Roma and Traveller  health outreach programme from April 2019.

The service is provided by a specialist team of healthcare professionals consisting of a district nurse, health visitor and a school nursery nurse who outreach to local Gypsy, Roma and Traveller  communities providing care and support on a range of health issues.

They offer help and advice on a range of topics including:

  • Immunisations
  • Face to face advice
  • Health concerns
  • A&E or GP
  • Teeth
  • Healthy eating
  • Blood pressure
  • Weighing babies

The specialist Gypsy, Roma and Traveller health team also provides training to other healthcare staff so they too can support Traveller communities.

Friends, Families and Travellers have created a resource to support health and care service providers breakdown some of the barriers experienced by Gypsies, Roma and Travellers when accessing healthcare. To view the resource click here
