Health reviews in primary school

Our School Nursing team reviews your child in Reception and Year 6 as part of the National Child Measurement Programme (in state schools).

Our team also reviews your child's health in Reception – find out more in the section below.

Reception

When your child is in Reception class (aged 4-5 years), the School Nursing team reviews their general health and school readiness including height, weight, vision and hearing (if required).

You will receive information about your child's health review through the school e-newsletter.

This will include information about how to opt-out if you do not wish your child to be screened, or if you do not want your child's National Child Measurement Programme information to be shared with the UK Health Security Agency (Public Health England).

If you have any concerns about your child’s health and development, please visit the pages below or call our Surrey-wide 0-19 Advice Line.

You can also visit our School Nursing page.

Year 6

All Year 6 children (aged 10-11 years) will be offered height and weight reviews as part of the National Child Measurement Programme.

Schools will email pre-measurement information two weeks before your child's review. If you do not want your child to take part, you will need to complete an opt-out form.

If you have any concerns about your child’s health and development, please visit the pages below or call our Surrey-wide 0-19 Advice Line.
