Top Tips on how to keep your baby safe and cool in a pram

With the current high temperatures, we have advice and tips on how to keep your baby safe and cool when out and about with a pram or pushchair.

  • DO NOT cover your baby’s pram/buggy: By covering the pram with a blanket or light cloth the heat inside the pram increases which could lead to overheating. This is one of the risk factors that increase the chances of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome occurring. Your view of the baby will also be blocked which means you can’t see if your baby is getting into any difficulty and because the blanket is in the way it may be more difficult to check your baby’s temperature as easily (by checking their tummy or the back of their neck).
  • Use a clip-on sunshade or parasol
  • Face your baby away from the sun when possible or try to move to a shaded area, if you stop for a rest or to chat.
  • Ensure your baby has sufficient fluids
